MATERIALS MATTER. CORK. MATERIALS MATTER. CORK. MATERIALS MATTER. CORK. MATERIALS MATTER. CORK. MATERIALS MATTER. CORK. MATERIALS MATTER. CORK.

MATERIALS MATTER. CORK.

You probably have heard about, that cork is super sustainable, since IKEA launched the special Ilse Crawford collection back in 2015 (gosh, feels like yesterday), but you did not know what that really is so sustainable. It is a soft, firm, warm, and natural material coming from a tree as well. Cork is the outer bark of the Cork Oak tree growing in the region around the Mediterranean sea. The highly protected Cork oak can never be cut down and the only way the tree can regenerate is when it is stripped by the bark. Every nine years the cork oak has to be stripped by its bark by hand, assuring its longevity. And by longevity, we mean up to 300 years.

After many wine producers switched to metal or plastic cork substitutes, producers of furniture and other products had got to step in, in order to create products and demand for cork as a raw material. We use 100% cork for our yoga blocks and we plan to develop more cork products to use this raw material that would otherwise lay unused and slowly deteriorate.

Our spring and summer collection will therefore include many more cork items and bring a sustainable and design edge to your daily practice.
